Some advocates of meds. For ADHD therapy suggest that the meds are a solution unto themselves. I have been asked why I don’t believe that statement. Simply put, the meds can’t train or retrain the mind. My experience has been that while I’m on meds that I am more likely to focus and keep the radio programmed on one station (you know the radio in the brain). They do not teach me how to organize in a style that works for me. They do not teach ways to alleviate stress that causes bad decision or indecision making. They do not advocate for earlier bed times for me. I believe that ADHD treatment is and must be multi-modal. A coach will work with you, encourage you, and help you to discover ways to a more rewarding life. The meds truly give one the opportunity to get there.
